AUTUMN 2.0

The seasons come and the seasons go, always four in each year. That never changes. For some countries though, one season looks like the next. There can be constant sunshine and heat or a never-ending coldness of varying degrees. For some, the change in the seasons is endured. They wait, grumbling to the those who will listen, for the return of the season that makes them comfortable again but for others the change is celebrated. A respite, a breath of fresh air, a warming of the body as well as the soul. Whatever the reason I find that in each one there is a celebration to be had. What kind of celebration you could ask? Well that depends on the mindset of who the conversation is with.

For me, the seasonal celebrations have a sublime vibe. To feel the morning air turn to a crispness as Summer fades and Autumn slides in and slowly readies us for the colder Winter mornings is something to relish.  To be able to enjoy the feeling of swishing through the falling leaves that layer themselves in a crispy, tempting pile of burnished red and gold whilst watching the pure joy and fascination as the young ones try it for the first time. Rosy cheeks that pass by on otherwise pallid complexions tell me that the cool wind is blowing the dustiness and heat of summer away for a while enabling us to hunker down, rest up for a while as the nights close in early and bring about a feeling of cosiness. The winter chill brings about a celebration of eerie magnificence as the landscape accepts its undergoing changes. The branches reach out in their stark glory without the curtains of leaves to hide their sturdy limbs. The snowfall gives a quiet stillness to otherwise bustling hubs but with a solid crunch underfoot. As it slowly melts it gives a peek at new life sprouting through to lift the hearts and smiles of those in the know. Those that know Spring is on its way again, new life is on its way. Sleeping flower bulbs begin to show their colour, animals are awakening from their lengthy slumber and gathering a new food supply, whilst in the fields new life appears with the bounce of little hooves as the lambs, keen to see this bright new world, bleat their surprised happiness to the new mums.  And once again Summer brings its blue skies, its warmth, its smiling faces as doors are thrown open to let it all in. These are the celebrations I enjoy and really, when you look really hard away from the commercial seasonal glitz, who wouldn’t?
