WHAT’S IN A TRADIE’S LUNCHBOX?

What is in a Tradie’s lunchbox you may well ask. Well from my experience of packing one, I would suggest that there is enough food packed in said lunchbox to feed a picnic to a family of four!! That may be a slight exaggeration, but I kid you not, putting together enough food and snacks to get your Tradie through to his evening meal is something that can test even the most dedicated of providers. Be it a partner, Mum or even themselves, thinking and putting together a healthy and varied lunchbox is no mean task.

I do say ‘his evening meal’ as this is where my experience lies. I am fully aware that female Tradies are there on site too doing as important tasks as the male of the species but I can’t imagine that she would want to fill to the same extent her lunch box with the mound of food I am discussing here. Don’t get me wrong, the girls get the munchies just as much as the lads do but they don’t seem to need to consume their fodder as though it’s their last ever meal!

And that’s only the start at ‘morning tea’! Mind you, I have to explain that most Tradies in our neck of the woods do tend to start work about 5.30 am so when I say ‘morning tea’ they probably had that at 7.30am and what we see being consumed with great gusto whilst we are passing on the way to the office or the shops is their lunchtime feed.

So, the question still stands. ‘What is in a Tradies lunchbox?’, and here is where I let you into the secret of emptying your fridge and pantry in one easy swoop!!
The leftovers from last night’s dinner can be packed into two sealed food containers. When I say leftovers, what I mean to say is; the extra two portions I purposely cooked and boxed up for said Tradie as I knew there would be NO leftovers, leftover!!

There would be a fork sticky-taped on top so that ‘dirty fingers’ aren’t used to eat Pasta salads, cold Spaghetti Bol, Chicken and rice meals, you cook it, it goes in the lunch boxes. They don’t care as long as they are fed! Sandwiches stuffed with sausages, ham and salad, egg and lettuce (yeah right…. make that 3 eggs and lettuce per sandwich). Half of the chocolate cake you did make for your visiting friends. Fruit by the kilo. Nuts and don’t forget the water to swill it all down with. And the most annoying thing? They don’t put a single kilo on!
