I’ve not been one to get into ‘online’ shopping but my busy offspring tell me it’s the way to go. Personally, I have found it more time consuming than actually running out to the shops and making a purchase, and I would miss the hustle and bustle of life to get me there. There’s nothing more satisfying than nipping into the last car space in the shopping centre, the one I saw empty as I entered the carpark but had to go round in bizarre one-way circles to get there hoping against hope that no one else had snaffled it. Then up the escalators, making sure I’m standing to the left so that I don’t get shoulder bumped to one side by ‘passing’ traffic who can’t get to the stores quickly enough. I learned that trick the hard way after finding myself in the middle of the commuter escalator one bright EVERYTHING 50% OFF SALE morning! I had to just go with it. Keeping in step with those in front as the escalator rose, not daring to stop in case those behind me didn’t, wondering which part of the 50% off SALE was drawing them because really, when is anything ever FULL price these days. ‘New season’s arrivals’ the window says, but they are already on SALE!
The changing rooms beckon as the ‘new seasons’ colours delight my senses. The must have winter coat to join the others sitting in the wardrobe. The ones I have only really worn once or twice because it didn’t really get cold enough to wear them more than that and besides, I didn’t have the right colour of shoes to go with them and anyway, they shrunk whilst sitting in the wardrobe. They must do that if you don’t wear them often enough.
I throw a new blouse and skirt over my arm in a couple of different sizes to add to my ‘change room’ collection. I might as well make the most of it with these 50% off crowds as, once I’m in I’m not nipping out to find a different size. They should fit, I say to myself. I’m still the same old me. There’s only one way to find out as I step into the first size. Jeez, they must have put the wrong size ticket on at the factory but lucky me, I have the next size already with me, just in case, as they got the tickets wrong last year too!!
I make my purchase and head home, pleased with my morning’s efforts. Phew, I need a cup of tea after all that. Would it really be easier on-line?
